63rd Summit County All-Boards Dinner

On January 27, 2014 the Summit County Educational Service Center Board of Governors hosted the 63rd Summit County All-Boards Dinner at St. George Fellowship Centre in Akron, Ohio. The theme of the evening was Celebrating 100 years of Exceptional Leadership and Service in Education. Sixty district board of education members, superintendents, treasurers, and administrators, representing 14 school districts throughout Summit County and the Educational Service Center were in attendance. During the reception and dinner hour, a centennial montage played showcasing 100 years of the Summit County Educational Service Center while Christopher Milo, a nationally recognized concert pianist, performed.

Craig Burford, Executive Director of the Ohio Educational Services Center Association (www.oesca.org) was one of the featured speakers for the evening. He took the audience through the evolution of educational service centers and discussed trending topics and challenges board members should be aware of encouraging them to continue being the voice for the citizens of their school districts and communities.

Following Mr. Burford’s presentation, Christopher Milo once again mesmerized the audience by playing his rendition from the hit Broadway play Phantom of the Opera in addition to a piece of the score for the upcoming play, Passion of the Christ. Christopher Milo not only plays the piano, but is a motivational speaker for students Kindergarten through College. His 13 Messages from Milo encourage students to use their talents and not be ashamed of those talents. In 2013 he spoke to 16000 students K – College and is not slowing down. He is determined to change and save the lives of students in Northeast Ohio.

The final portion of the program included Patricia Weber, Summit County ESC Governing Board, and Superintendent Linda Fuline who presented the following board members with recognition plaques for their years of dedicated service to the communities and students in Summit County:

Board members that have completed 2 full terms:
  • Copley-Fairlawn City Schools: Sue Emich
  • Cuyahoga Falls City Schools: Barbara Gunter
  • Green Local Schools: Bob Campbell
  • Tallmadge City Schools: Rick Kellar
Board members that have completed 3 full terms:
  • Manchester Local Schools: Richard Sponseller
  • Woodridge Local Schools: Tammy Heffernan
Board members that have completed 4 full terms:
  • Coventry Local Schools: David Andrews

Special recognition was given to four board members. Each was presented with an engraved crystal apple in appreciation of their 20 or more years of service to their boards of education, students and their community:

  • Coventry Local Schools: Robert Wohlgamuth - 21 years
  • Revere Local Schools: Diana Sabitsch - 27 years
  • Springfield Local Schools: Mary Lou Dodson - 34 years
  • Woodridge Local School: Marilyn Hansen - 35 years

On behalf of the Summit County Educational Service Center Board of Governors, we would like to congratulate all of the award winners.

Superintendent Fuline closed the evening by referring to the Ancient African proverb which states, “it takes a village to raise a child…” “This simply means”, states Superintendent Fuline, “it takes more than one person to teach a child the ways of life, and so we thank each and every one of you for the work that you do year after year for the children who live, learn, and play in our county.”
