What Are the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)?

"Common Core Standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs."

The CC standards were created by a group of teachers, content experts, school administrators, and parents and are benchmarked to international standards.

The goal is to ensure that students graduating from high school, parents, and teachers have a clear understanding of what is expected from them.

By 2020, 75% of new jobs in Ohio will require a college level of math.

Only 51% of students currently entering Kent State and the University of Akron are proficient in both math and ELA.
