Moving Beyond The Walls of Our Classroom Through Webcams
S.C.O.P.E. Academy is excited to announce that we have been awarded a
Children’s Fund Grant from the National Lego Foundation that will allow
us to bring exciting new opportunities into our preschool classrooms
next year. Our project, “Creative Outlets to
Learning,” is designed to empower and foster learning and development in
young children through technology applications that build new and
creative means of expression. The project will engage children through
technology in realistic and meaningful opportunities to share and
collaborate on original work with peers from other early learning
programs.
The grant funds will support the purchase of several webcams; one
webcam will remain in our preschool classrooms and we will share the
other webcams with preschool classrooms throughout Summit, Medina, and
Portage counties. Participating classrooms will engage in shared
experiences in which they work on similar projects in order to develop a
learning community among the preschool children in each classroom. The
shared experiences will focus on activities based on children’s interest
and allow children to develop important academic concepts and skills in
authentic and meaningful learning experiences. As children engage in the
projects, they will be able to use the webcams to talk with children in
other classrooms about the work they are doing.
Each
participating classroom will also receive a digital camera that children
can use to document their exciting projects and developing work. The
children’s documentation will then be featured on a website that will be
established for the project.
